Testing and Assessment
Testing is important as a diagnostic tool to assess the reading needs of your child. The Testing and Assessment features of StudyDog include both a Placement Test, and an adaptive Skills Test that measure the reading needs of your child. These fun tests are administered at the beginning of the program and identify the areas of strength and weakness in your child's reading. The Placement Test features oral stories read to your child that they answer questions about and sight word identification. The Skills Test is adaptive meaning that it adjusts questions to the level of your child and measures skills such as the Alphabet, Single and Multi-sound Consonants, Beginning Sounds, Rhyming Words, Sight Words, Contractions, Short and Long Vowels, Consonant Blends, Complex Words, Spelling, and more.

Customized Program for Your Child
Each child is unique, so a customized program created just for them greatly increases their reading success. Customized instruction provides the opportunity for students to learn at their own pace, in their own way, with the right instructional content, and be successful. StudyDog's Customized Program uses the results of the Placement and Skills Tests to create a customized and individualized reading course for your child -- this is the "heart" of the StudyDog Personal Program. This customized course specifies a curriculum starting point after which each skill activity adapts to the child's progress and the results of their test results. This customized program ensures the best possible learning environment for your child -- one that they will enjoy, stick with, and learn how to read better.

Adaptive Lessons
Research has proven that successful instruction programs require an educational solution that is well targeted, effective, and takes into account that no two individuals learn at the same pace -- in other words "Adaptive Instruction". StudyDog Adaptive Lessons adjust to your child's progress. Lessons continually monitor the progress of the child and fine tune the difficulty level of the lesson to best match your child's needs. If the subject matter is deemed too difficult at present, then less difficult material is presented before attempting the content again. Likewise if the material is too easy, then more difficult material is presented. From a student's perspective, they are rewarded at different levels depending on how well they do.

Full Progress Reporting
Detailed reporting of a students progress is important for parents and teachers to evaluate how well a program of study is performing, and to be able to take corrective action if needed. StudyDog's Extensive Reporting Capabilities provides continual feedback on all aspects of a student's progress. From detailed Test Assessment Reports to real-time Progress Reports that are available 24 hours per day, you can be assured of always knowing how well your students are doing. StudyDog Reports are highly graphical and allow for simple and easy understanding. Report information includes how many lessons were completed in the past week, the length of time on each lesson, the percentage score in each lesson, graphs and bar charts of individual skills, indications of meeting Mastery, expected score vs. actual scores, improvement over Pretest results, details of each student response, and much more. When this feature is used in combination with the Reading Specialist you will received additional reporting directly from the Reading Specialist each week.

Same Account Access from Different Computers
Because StudyDog Personal is web-based it is possible for your child to access the same lessons on different computers, and continue with their lesson progress intact. Now it is possible to go to Grandma's house and still get the full benefit of StudyDog Personal. Any points earned or progress made will be available no matter where you are. All that is required is an internet connection and a computer that meets the system requirements.

Managed Child Accounts
StudyDog allows for several students under a single Parent or Teacher account. This allows for easy and convenient student management from a single location. In the "My Account" area, a list of all students is shown with options for each student to: Start lesson, View Pre-Test Reports, View Progress Reports, Go to the Student's Toy Store, and Add new features to the Students account. The multi-child account also offers the ability to launch each child's program from a single location requiring only a single password to start all students. In addition, each student has the option of their own individual username and password.
"Please note that you must purchase each child account before it appears in the Managed Account's list"

Toy Store
As your child succeeds in progressing through the StudyDog Reading program, they earn points, or "Coins" related to how well they do. By earning Bronze, Silver, and Gold Coins, your child earns enough points to be able to buy prizes at the StudyDog Toy store. The StudyDog Toy store is an online store that the child may visit at any time, and if they have enough points they may purchase any toy they wish. Typically a child can earn a new toy after the successful completion of a few lessons, or they can complete more lessons to earn bigger toys. StudyDog will send the toy to your child in the mail. The StudyDog Toy store is an effective incentive for students to do well, and to stick with the program.

Research Proven Curriculum
Research evidence indicates that phonemic awareness and letter knowledge are the best predictors of how well children will learn to read during the first two years of instruction. To facilitate fluent word recognition, beginning readers must understand the link between the sounds of words and the letters they represent. Research also shows that vocabulary development in children with limited comprehension skills is significantly enhanced by the amount and variety of material they read, and that oral reading fluency functions as an overall indicator of reading comprehension and development. StudyDog students read stories composed of the sounds and words they have learned. Your child will read stories at their instructional level, giving him/her the opportunity to develop fluency through repeated readings. Your child will progress from a slow, deliberate reader to an expressive, fluent reader. Skilled readers comprehend what they read. They differ from less skilled readers in their use of background knowledge to comprehend text and to draw valid inferences about what they have read. They also differ from struggling readers in their ability to decode fluently and accurately. To comprehend text, the reader must be able to decode words and construct meaning. All of these skills and more are taught explicitly and systematically via the StudyDog Reading Curriculum.

Interactive Fun Lessons
StudyDog Reading Lessons are serious learning activities based on sound educational principles. For the student however, they are fun games. A key advantage of the StudyDog system is the successful "blending" of proven educational principles and fun entertainment. It all begins when the child and their best friend "StudyDog" are called to Lost Island by the renowned anthropologist Dr. Z. . Your child and StudyDog are called because Lost Island is in danger of falling into the hands of mysterious forces. She needs your child's help! Your child and StudyDog fly to Lost Island in Dr. Z's private plane and arrive in a new and exciting world. Overcoming all obstacles in their path, they pursue a quest to help Dr. Z and the Lost Islanders save this magical island. Meeting with, and helping, many engaging and fun characters along the way your child learns by solving problems presented in a fun game environment. StudyDog's high quality animations and characters, in combination with a variety of different environments from "castles" to "caves" on Lost Island ensure that your child is engaged and sticks with the program.

"Thank you for making such a program such as 'StudyDog Reading Program' available for parents. I am currently using this program with my son, who is four years old.
